MEDIAPRO have reached an agreement which Telefonica granting the residential rights to the Champions League and the Europa League for the coming 3 seasons. MEDIAPRO will manage the rights for public establishments (bars, hotels, etc.).
The company will also continue to broadcast both competitions via beIN Connect and will broadcast one match free-to-air every matchday for the Spanish teams competing in the Europa League. The latest agreements signed between MEDIAPRO and Telefonica confirm the interest around football competitions as attractive premium content with excellent growth potential.
The MEDIAPRO Group is currently developing a strategy to bolster rights exploitation in public establishments, given that the company holds the rights to the Spanish LaLiga and the Champions League. This particular market segment is clearly underdeveloped when compared with the individual household segment, and as such its potential for growth is much greater. As part of MEDIAPRO’s strategy, the company is considering setting up a specialist themed channel with LaLiga and the Champions as its flagship content, as well as other specific content and utilities. At present, there are only 50,000 public establishment Pay-TV subscribers in Spain.
Recently, LaLiga extended their International Trading Agency contract with MEDIAPRO until 2024, with guaranteed revenues of €4.5 billion for the coming 5 seasons. LaLiga Santander is, at this point in time, considered to be the best National League competition in the world and in high demand by football fans worldwide.
