LynTec Debuts New Solutions that Extend the Reach of Power Control at LDI 2018

LynTec, a leading manufacturer of innovative electrical power control solutions for professional audio, video, and lighting systems, will introduce its new line of Xtend Power Control (XPC) remote relay modules and a standalone controller in booth 2427 at LDI 2018, Oct. 19-21 at the Las Vegas Convention Center, adding virtually unlimited flexibility to the company’s extensive power control options. The company will also demonstrate the award-winning Networkable Power Automation Control (NPAC) rack-mounted system, the industry’s only complete, ready-to-install power and zoned lighting management solution that can manage up to 80 amps in a single 2RU unit.

“Our customers often need to control circuits that are being fed from a panel on the other side of the venue, requiring them to wire everything back to the main panel,” said Mark Bishop, president of LynTec. “Now they can use one or more of our XPC remote relay options to tie their equipment into to the existing RPC controller in their motorized circuit breaker panel, an RPCR electrical relay panel, or NPAC rack-mounted relay panel without having to bring their electricity all the way back to that panel. They can also add our patented, web-based control system to any device that needs to be on the same network, extending their power control platform more broadly and affordably than ever before.”

LynTec’s new XPC remote relay modules extend beyond the traditional reach of the company’s relay panels and motorized circuit breakers. Enclosed in a metal cube, they can be placed anywhere imaginable: in the rack, on rigging, behind line arrays, or anywhere equipment is located. Each module contains an electrical connection, a power plug, and an Ethernet port. Integration is simple and straightforward: Connect the module to a power source and the network, and then plug in the equipment that needs power control. Using LynTec’s IP-based GUI, users can set up and customize the control and sequencing for each device. The family includes:

  • XRM 20 Relay Module: a standalone 20-amp cube enclosure with two independent relays to control the two onboard duplex plugs.
  • XRM 30 Relay Module: a standalone 30-amp cube enclosure with a single relay switch that controls a single 30A L5-30 receptacle.
  • XRS 20 Rack Sequencer: a 1RU rack-mounted enclosure powered from a 20-amp circuit to provide control to three duplex receptacles, each of which has its own relay switch for onboard sequencing.
  • XRS 80 Rack Sequencer: a hardwired vertical rack-mounted strip that can manage up to four 20-amp circuits that power four corresponding duplexes, each with its own relay switch to provide onboard control.

The XPC standalone controller offers LynTec’s trusted RPC control solution that previously was only available in LynTec’s RPC series motorized circuit breaker panel, RPCM mobile distro, RPCR wall-mounted relay panel, or NPAC rack-mounted relay panel. Now customers can take advantage of all the capabilities and features of the popular and time-tested RPC controller they’re already familiar with but in a standalone 1RU rack-mounted enclosure. This eliminates the costs of purchasing preconfigured controllable circuit breakers or relays while providing customers with a way to operate one or more remotely placed relay modules spread out over an extended area or venue. Easy to set up, operate, and maintain, the controller can control lighting and AV systems across multiple control zones and protocols and offers customizable step rates and delay settings for sequencing, load shedding at the circuit level for emergency off, auto-on for egress lighting, a built-in timer for automated control, and more. In addition to onboard control options, the XPC controller can interface with any third-party control system that communicates with Telnet, HTTP, DMX512, sACN, or contact closure signals.

At the booth, LynTec will also demonstrate the ready-to-install NPAC rackmount power management solution. It is the only rackmount solution of its kind to sequence on/off complex digital audio systems with easy-to-program extended step rates and time delays that guarantee proper component boot-up and shutdown automatically. NPAC is available in two models: 120V or 240V, and features four 20A circuit inputs in a single 2RU enclosure — saving valuable rack space over 4RU systems and eliminating the need to wire multiple units together.

The new XPC line is expected to ship starting in December.

Jonathan Young, DP for the BBC’s ‘Mediterranean With Simon Reeve,’ Endorses Anton/Bauer Dionic XT

“Mediterranean With Simon Reeve” is a four-part series in which Reeve embarks on an epic journey around the Mediterranean, the birthplace of Western civilization and currently a hotbed of global conflict.

Launched earlier this year, Anton/Bauer’s Dionic XT is the newest generation of the highly popular Dionic battery series for broadcast and 14.4V cinema applications. Available in both V-Mount and Gold Mount, the high-performing and compact Dionic XT is capable of delivering up to 12 amps of continuous power for cinematographers, broadcasters, rental houses, and others for whom battery performance and reliability are essential.

Over his 25-year career as a director of photography and documentary cameraman, Young has worked on projects in more than 110 countries, with many of those locations considered challenging or hostile. He and Reeve have collaborated on scores of travel documentaries for the BBC including series on the Caribbean, Ireland, Greece, Turkey, Colombia, Russia, and Burma. For the new Mediterranean series, Young tested the Dionic XT batteries during a two-week shoot in Libya, in which the film crew was constantly on the go relying on all means of transportation.

“Wherever I roam on the job, my travels tend to take me to far-flung and challenging locations where reliable mobile power is absolutely essential,” Young said. “As a longtime user of Anton/Bauer batteries, I’ve learned I can completely rely on them in any type of filming situation — even in the most rugged and remote locations. That’s why I was happy to use the Dionic XTs. Not only do these new batteries deliver better consistency and performance, but they also have a more compact form factor that makes them ideal for constant travel.”

Young added, “One of the things that impresses me the most about the Dionic XTs is their ruggedness. Like all Anton/Bauer batteries, the XTs have been tested to within an inch of their lives for safety, and I know they will stand up to almost any kind of treatment with extremely low risk of damage. On the Libya trip, the XTs survived dropping, being bounced around in the backs of 4WD vehicles, and plenty of other rough treatment, and they still performed flawlessly.”

AntonBauer-JonathanYoung-CameraAnother important feature of the Dionic XT batteries is their power management system, which made Young’s power planning easier and gave him reassurance the batteries would not discharge too quickly. With the XTs, he was able to plan his critical power requirements for any location shoot almost to the minute using the built-in power gauges on the batteries. When planning a trek into a location that would take many hours, he was able to estimate precisely how much battery power he would need to pack in.

“Like many freelance DPs, I own a large percentage of my gear. My investment spend is critical to my business overheads,” Young said. “I have always tried to invest in the best kit to help my business grow. Anton/Bauer batteries have always been my first choice. In my view, there is simply nothing else that compares to their reliability, ruggedness, and performance, and the Dionic XTs are just the latest example.”

The Dionic XT90 and Dionic XT150 from Anton/Bauer start from $499.
