New EdgeCaster Professional Edge Compute Encoder Line

The Videon EdgeCaster is built for professionals in the broadcast and pro AV markets who are looking for a more advanced streaming feature set. Those looking to save time and money while using a more advanced feature set will benefit from the ultra-low-latency streaming, multiple-bit-rate support, forward error correction, and full duplex encoding/decoding.

Videon’s edge compute encoders, the EdgeCaster HD and EdgeCaster 4K, are specifically designed to eliminate heavy computational processes from the cloud, including transcoding, format repackaging from RTMP to HLS/DASH, and, with the EdgeCaster 4K, creation of multiple bit rates. Rather, by processing video more efficiently on an edge hardware device, EdgeCaster systems significantly reduce latency and cloud service fees while improving the viewer experience. With these capabilities, the Videon systems are ideal for delay-sensitive video applications that demand low latency, as well as for high-volume streaming to limited numbers of viewers per stream, such as betting, auctions, security, or gaming.

VersaStreamer supports IBM workflow

IBM will be demonstrating live video broadcasts at NAB in booth SL5005 that allows attendees to experience being a weather reporter. The video from the “studio” will be output to Videon’s Edge Compute Encoder platform where it will be encoded and delivered into IBM’s Stream Manager and then through the cloud to the Weather App for live viewing of the studio.

AIDA Imaging will be demonstrating two-second latency using the Videon Edge Compute Encoder platform at NAB in their booth C2060.

Macnica Technology to Demonstrate SMPTE ST 2110 and NMOS Network Media Switching Solutions at 2019 NAB Show

Macnica Technology, a leader in live video over IP transport technologies, will showcase its expanding VIPA product line and offer live demos of its SMPTE ST 2110 and NMOSnetwork media switching solutions at the 2019 NAB Show. Macnica exhibits at Booth SU13013, April 8-11 in the Las Vegas Convention Center.

Macnica is a creator of hardware and software APIs that implement the SMPTE ST 2110 suite of standards. SMPTE ST 2110 is a widely followed open standard for professional broadcast and AV that fosters interoperability, scalability and flexibility in IP applications. At NAB, Macnica will demonstrate its growing VIPA range, which offers video transport interface functionality for video processing of ST 2110 streams.

NAB marks the introduction of Macnica’s VIPA 25 PCI Express (PCIe) card. The VIPA 25 is an ST 2110 accelerated network interface card that completely offloads the network processing and timing workload from the CPU. It provides a straightforward, simple API that includes NMOS IS-04/05 and GStreamer filters (source and sync)—making it ready for developers to start creating next-generation, IP-networked broadcast applications on open standards. An optional 12G-SDI daughtercard adds SDI support with seamless API access alongside ST 2110.

Macnica will also show its recently introduced 10GbE card, the VIPA 10, at NAB. Macnica will demonstrate some of the new capabilities of its software development kit (SDK) with the VIPA 10 card.

Macnica continues to be involved in the NMOS standards and VIPA 25 is a full-stack ST 2110/NMOS solution, supporting all ratified standard subtypes. In addition to live demonstrations at its booth, Macnica will participate in the IP Showcase atbooth C12634 to exhibit the interoperability of its NMOS solutions.

Cobalt Digital Demonstrates New 4K DA Series

Designed to support 4K 12G-SDI sources, the new cards are built for openGear® frames and allow for copper runs long enough to reach most equipment within a rack room or production truck.

The 9914DA-4×16-XPT-12G reclocking DA offers four input channels that can be crosspoint-routed to 16 DA outputs, plus a fiber option that allows significantly longer runs. The crosspoint allows quad 1×4, dual 1×8, single 1×16, and manual configurations. Any of the four inputs can be distributed or duplicated across four groups of 1×4 DAs, and the quad-input capacity supports 8K quad-link content over 12G-SDI interfaces. Up to 10 9914DA-4×16-XPT-12G cards can be installed in one openGear frame to provide 40 channels of input and distribution to up to 160 outputs.

 

“As 4K adoption continues to increase, broadcasters and other production facilities need to be able to distribute 12G-SDI signals throughout master control or an OB truck,” explained Chris Shaw, executive vice president of sales and marketing, Cobalt Digital. “Our 9914DA-4×16-XPT-12G provides the extra advantage of its flexible crosspoint routing for 4K and even 8K signals.”

There are four models in the series, each with 16 DA outputs. The other models include the 9914DA-QUAD-1×4-12G with four inputs that can be distributed to four DA outputs, 9914DA-DUAL-1×8-12G with two input channels that can be distributed to eight outputs, and the 9914DA-1×16-12G with one input distributed to 16 DA outputs. All 9914DA Series distribution amplifiers are controlled locally with Cobalt’s remote control panels or across a standard Ethernet network with DashBoard software.

TVU MediaMind Appliance Uses Time Code, AI-Based Facial/Speech Recognition to Generate Metadata

At NAB 2019 TVU Networks, the global technology and innovation leader in live IP solutions, will announce the new MediaMind Appliance, a metadata generation and search engine that speeds production performance and content reuse within an existing broadcast media supply chain. The system uses a combination of time-code and AI-based facial and speech recognition to generate metadata. And an open API lets users connect directly with MAM and NLE systems. TVU Networks exhibits in booth #C1707 during the NAB Show in Las Vegas.

“TV stations and news agencies have considerable media assets, but how can they be considered assets if they can’t be reused and repurposed?” said Paul Shen, CEO, TVU Networks. “While there are many ways to measure the value of content in the media industry, there are ultimately only two: who gets to the audience first and what content is viewed and reused the most? The Components

The TVU MediaMind appliance is part of a TVU SaaS model that uses TVU MediaMind server (dual-channel VS3500/VS3100 models) as the edge server. The servers can receive video signals from any TVU Networks’ transmission device as well as process IP streams of standard transmission protocol, SDI video, and store files in any MAM system. They are professional video hardware decoders designed for the centralized viewing, control and distribution of live video content.
