FOR-A Brings Top Tech for Live Event Production to Austin

FOR-A will showcase its latest range of live production technology this week at the Texas Association of Broadcasters (TAB) show, August 7-8 in Austin, Texas (Booth 517). At their stand will be some of the latest gear used for studio production and live events, including some of the world’s most high-profile sporting events.

Included in the FOR-A line-up at TAB is the FA-9600 multi-purpose signal processor; the 4K-capable HVS-490 HANABI video switcher; Variant Systems Group’s Envivo Studio production suite and Envivo Replay live event replay solution; ClassX content creation and graphics playout solution; and the ODYSSEY Insight video server.

Heading to the upcoming 2019 world rugby event, the 2020 Tokyo summer games, and the start of the new professional football leagues in Europe, the FOR-A FA-9600 dual channel signal processor is gaining attention from premiere broadcasters looking for the highest quality, image conversion technology for these prestigious events.

The new version of the popular FA-9600 supports 3D LUT for advanced color grading and Sony’s SR Live workflow for live HDR production. The dual-channel unit provides HDR and Wide Color Gamut support and conversion of multiple formats, such as: 12G-SDI, 4K (UHD), 1080p, and SD/HD-SDI. Each of the FA-9600 processor’s two HD/SD-SDI inputs includes a frame synchronizer.

The compact HANABI HVS-490 opens the door to more affordable 4K production. HDMI 2.0b specification support provides 4K(UHD) output to a multi-viewer. Offering exclusive features, including MELite™ technology, which extends the switcher’s 2 M/Es to offer 6 M/E performance, the HVS-490 is designed for use in any live environment, including mobile shoots, events, and in-house corporate productions. The switcher provides users with event memory and macro functions, as well as integrated frame synchronizers and multi viewers – making it easy to set up quickly for live performances.

Recently introduced at NAB 2019, Variant Systems will showcase the new Envivo Studio in the FOR-A TAB booth. Envivo Studio is an all-in-one live production system that includes a clip player, still store, shot box, and powerful capabilities, including:

  • Live switcher (cut camera inputs)

  • Switcher support (key/fill)
  • Drive multiple venue screens (IMAG)
  • VDCP control
  • 24hr loop record inputs
  • Built-in slow-motion replay

Envivo Replay offers a complete replay solution packaged in an intuitive user interface with continuous multiple iso-channel recording capabilities, simultaneous clip storage of multiple angles to clip bins, playlists for highlights playback, built-in branding capabilities, direct publishing to social media platforms, and support for high speed super slow-motion cameras. Both Envivo systems will be shown with a Dante audio interface, enabling the systems to support uncompressed, multi-channel, low latency digital audio over a standard Ethernet network. Studio and Replay also support NDI (Network Device Interface), a free protocol for Video-Over-IP, developed by NewTek.

Envivo Replay was recently selected by the new Spanish-language Hipica TV (TSG Network) as the heart of its production system. UCLA Athletics selected Envivo Replay to help analyze player performance during team practice.

A demo of the latest ClassX solution of 2D/3D character generation and live motion graphics and playout software integrated with FOR-A video switchers will be shown. ClassX’s graphics suite of solutions is popular with universities, digital signage, live event, and sports production applications. ClassX offers a complete solution with pixel-perfect, real-time 2D and 3D motion graphics and titling, SportsGraphics, SocialServer, MOS newsroom interface, clip playing automation, picture-in-picture and a multi-functional scripting facility. ClassX supports Dante digital audio for playout.

ODYSSEY’s Insight Production Server is a multi-channel playout system, available in a two- or four-channel configuration. Offering a Web interface for control from any device with a web browser (no installation required), the video server provides a wide range of supported wrappers and codecs for media contribution and video play out with time delay playback. Insight’s flexible event processor allows users to connect multiple devices and interact with FOR-A production video switchers, routing switchers, CG generators, GPIO-connected devices and other studio equipment to orchestrate event triggering for a seamless production.

Qligent to Debut Integrated Content Repurposing in Vision Monitoring and Analysis Platform at IBC2019

Qligent, a specialist in cloud-based, enterprise-level content monitoring and analysis, has added integrated content repurposing as a standard feature within its award-winning Qligent™ Vision QoS/QoE media quality assurance platform. For TV broadcasters, cable networks, and other premium media content providers, Vision Repurpose streamlines the recording, trimming, and transformation of off-air video into short, branded clips using handy tools directly within the Vision environment.

Qligent will showcase the extensive, feature-rich Vision platform and demonstrate the benefits of the new Vision Repurpose toolset in stand 8.E47 at IBC2019, taking place September 13-17, 2019 at the RAI in Amsterdam. The company will also highlight its Qligent Analytics product line at a special exhibit in stand 14.C19.

Meet Vision Repurpose

Vision Repurpose is particularly beneficial for routine operational tasks, such as creating on-demand news and sport stories, on-air promos, and posts for social media, web, and OTT outlets. It can also be used to efficiently create clips with burned-in timecode that verify compliance—such as closed captioning—or show advertisers that their commercials ran as agreed.

With just a few clicks, Vision Repurpose lets users schedule and record off-air video in multiple resolutions and formats. Then, using the embedded HTML5 media player, users can browse the recordings for specific segments they want to repurpose. Using the cuts-only editing tools within the media player, users can mark the clip’s in- and out-points with frame accuracy to edit and trim the clip. These clips can then be exported directly to a nonlinear editing system (NLE) for craft editing or moved to servers or cloud-based storage for collaboration, distribution, and archiving.

“Since time is of the essence, branding, sales, and programming teams need to move swiftly to generate the video clips and promo packages they regularly need to expand their broadcast and online viewership,” said John Shoemaker, Director of Sales for Qligent. “Vision Repurpose speeds and automates this otherwise time- and labor-intensive workflow so the process is faster and more efficient.”

User-Controlled Functionality

Qligent-Repurpose_AsRun-with-Data

The Vision platform is designed to operate on-premises, in the cloud, or a hybrid of the two allowing for distributed recording, such as locally for a station group and centralized editing all in one system. Vision Repurpose continues to offer users flexibility and control, such as whether they want certain tasks to be automated or done manually. Users also have full control over when and where any repurposed video is released for broadcast, online distribution, or proof of air.

Further simplifying the process, Vision Repurpose can be configured to take each user directly to a personal dashboard listing the video recordings relevant to their job responsibility. For example, sales staff would be shown a list of recorded ads, while the newsroom or branding departments would see recently recorded newscasts. Similarly, station executives can filter videos of interest, such as proof that an ad ran as agreed or that a show had proper closed captioning. Users can also search for specific segments based upon captions, timecode, or other criteria.

“Users can find what they need, when they need it, in fewer clicks, and with fewer screens to sift through,” Shoemaker said. “Vision Repurpose makes creating video clips from recorded video quick and easy, especially benefitting lean, budget-conscious broadcast teams.”

Timely, Custom Repurposing

While recording can be performed manually, Vision Repurpose also offers 24/7 scheduling of automated recordings of any broadcast channels or program segments. Customers can record video locally or to their own private cloud storage, or incorporate storage as part of their Qligent Vision service. Video can be captured in multiple compressed formats in resolutions up to 4K Ultra HD, and repurposed video clips can incorporate elements like the station’s logo bug.

For example, a call-letter station could use Vision Repurpose to record its 6pm newscast in its entirety, or just a segment of interest, like the “A block.” When the newscast is finished, that recording can be viewed in the HTML5 player and edited to create a short HD promo of the lead story for that night’s 11pm news. Lower-resolution versions can also be quickly and easily output for posting to the station’s Facebook, Twitter and Instagram accounts and website.

“Since Vision already handles tasks like video/audio recording, compliance monitoring, and as-run verification, Vision users no longer need to exit the platform to repurpose their media,” Shoemaker added. “Vision Repurpose now puts the video editing and repurposing tools they need right within the scalable, powerful Vision platform.”

Just Add Power Set to Shred at CEDIA 2019 With ‘Guitars For Vets’ Giveaway

Just Add Power (J+P) announced the company will be giving away three classic red bullseye-designed Kramer ’84 guitars at CEDIA Expo 2019 — Sept. 12-14 at the Colorado Convention Center in Denver — as part of J+P’s partnership with Guitars For Vets (G4V). Attendees will have the chance to win a guitar each day of the expo in booth 1817. For each guitar given away, J+P will donate four acoustic guitars — with the winner’s name on them — and a year’s worth of lessons to American veterans.

This is the fourth year J+P has held a guitar giveaway. This year’s prize — the Kramer ’84 — is styled in the image of the original Kramer Baretta of 1984, played by such master shredders as Eddie Van Halen and Mötley Crüe’s Mick Mars. For a chance to win, attendees must visit J+P’s booth to enter and be present during the daily 3 p.m. drawing.

“This is the fourth year we’ve given away guitars at CEDIA to support and raise the visibility of G4V’s important mission,” said Taft Stricklin, sales team manager for J+P. “This year, 12 veterans will receive brand-new guitars. With G4V, vets have described rehab as band camp, where they learn, create, and bond with other vets to make music. Music is a powerful healing tool. We couldn’t be prouder to be a part of helping these deserving heroes.”

Founded in 2007, G4V donates guitars to veterans using the medium of music to help them readjust to life after service and cope with the effects of post-traumatic stress disorder. G4V currently operates more than 80 chapters in 40 states across the U.S. with the assistance of over 200 volunteers nationwide.

During CEDIA, J+P is also rolling out the red carpet with an invitation to party with Dr. Crüe, the premier Mötley Crüe tribute band, Sept. 12 at 7 p.m. at the Summit Music House in Denver. Sponsored in partnership with Luxul, attendees can pick up tickets at booth 1817.
