LTN Global Appoints Alan Young CTO and Head of Strategy

Young joined LTN following its acquisition of Crystal, where he served as chief operating officer. Before his time at Crystal, Young served in CTO roles at SES Americom, Encompass Digital Media, and e-Citi, and as head of emerging technologies and the strategic vendor partnership program at Citigroup. He earlier served as vice president of engineering for Viacom/MTV Networks. Young began his career in broadcast as a technical manager at British Telecom after earning a master’s degree in electronic systems engineering from the University of York. He is a recognized innovator with four issued patents to his name and a fellow of the Institution of Engineering and Technology.

ChyronHego Announces Key Appointment of Ariel Garcia as CEO

ChyronHego today announced the appointment of Ariel Garcia as CEO, effective today.

Garcia will drive ChyronHego’s expanding focus on product innovation driven by customer requirements. He joined ChyronHego as a board member in 2015, following a strategic investment from Vector Capital, and stepped into the business as president of broadcasting at the end of 2018.

Garcia has a long trajectory of driving growth and operational enhancements for technology companies. Since 2014, he has served as operating partner and head of value creation at Vector Capital. Previously, he was senior principal at The Boston Consulting Group, where he led the company’s technology, media, and telecommunications practices. Garcia holds a Master of Business Administration from the Wharton School of Business at the University of Pennsylvania and a degree in computer engineering from the Universidad Católica Argentina.

Utah Scientific Welcomes Four Talented Individuals Into New Positions

Utah Scientific has promoted longtime employees Randy Rose, John Bell, and Jim Barnhurst, and welcomed Mario Moreno to the team as a field service engineer. Rose has been named the new director of sales engineering, Bell will serve as customer service manager, and Barnhurst will act as the company’s new field and technical service manager.

“I am thrilled to be offered this new position in a company where there are supportive people and continued growth,” said Rose. “I look forward to bettering relationships with our integrators and external dealers, as well as to helping the sales team create more streamlined tools and functionality that will help them become more successful.”

As the new director of sales engineering, Rose will act as the technical interface between sales and customers. He began his career at Utah Scientific in 1988, serving as a technician for 10 years and more recently holding the position of customer service manager.

Bell is replacing Rose in the role of customer service manager. In his previous position as the customer support manager, Bell provided award-winning customer assistance for 14 years, and he looks forward to continuing this success in his new role.

“It’s great to be part of Utah Scientific’s high-level customer service, which we have become known for over the years,” said Bell.

He also plays a major role in representing Utah Scientific at the industry’s largest technology trade show, the annual NAB Show in Las Vegas, as the booth manager.

Barnhurst is in his 29th year as a Utah Scientific employee. He spent more than three decades as a broadcast industry professional and is well-qualified to take on the role of field and technical service manager. His professional efforts will be focused on service calls, troubleshooting equipment, training customers, commissioning/implementing systems, and overseeing day-to-day technical operations in customer service.

Moreno, the company’s new field service engineer, will be headquartered in Utah Scientific’s Houston, Texas, office and report to Barnhurst. Moreno’s background with broadcast began in 1991, and over his career he has worked in a variety of positions at television stations.

“Mario’s experience at TV stations gives him a unique perspective as he extends his skills to the supplier side,” Barnhurst commented. “He is well-positioned to make an immediate impact in his new role at Utah Scientific.”

National TeleConsultants (NTC) is proud to announce that its co-founder and managing partner, Peter Adamiak, has been named by the Society of Motion Picture and Television Engineers® (SMPTE®) as a 2019 SMPTE Fellow. Adamiak will be recognized at the SMPTE Annual Awards Gala on Thursday, Oct. 24 in Los Angeles, California.

The SMPTE Fellow is a distinguished honor extended only to industry leaders with a strong commitment to the advancement of motion imaging and allied technologies whose work, throughout the course of their career, has resulted in significant contributions to improve the industry.

During his near-50-year career in broadcast engineering, Adamiak has been instrumental in implementing cutting-edge technologies for many of the biggest players in the game.

After receiving his Bachelor of Science degree in electrical engineering from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI), Peter went to work for the school as a video systems engineer helping to pioneer the advanced use of television for educational purposes.

His next career stop took him to ABC, where he held several positions including manager of engineering for ABC’s O&O TV stations. After eight years, Peter departed from ABC to help found the company that would become his legacy in the broadcasting industry, NTC. NTC is widely regarded as an industry leader in new media technology solutions. The company has been at the forefront of every major transition in the industry, including custom software integrations, format transitions, cloud computing, and new distribution platforms.

Leading the Services Delivery Group at NTC, Adamiak has spearheaded major projects, including the ground-up development of ESPN’s broadcasting headquarters in Bristol, Connecticut and Telepictures’ TMZ facility, the first fully tapeless facility capable of going direct to air from a server. Other major projects he has overseen for NTC include groundbreaking facilities for ABC, AT&T, DIRECTV, Disney, Fox, Voice of America, Warner Bros, and Viacom.

Vitec Production Solutions’ Jürgen Sommer Appointed to IABM Board of Directors

Jürgen Sommer, vice president of channel development, EMEA, for Vitec Production Solutions, a division of the Vitec Group, has been appointed to the IABM board of directors.

“I’ve respected and collaborated with the IABM for a long time and have benefited from its market reports and strategic analyses. I’ve always been fascinated by the organization’s ability to spot technology trends and predict what will happen in the future,” Sommer said. “Especially at this moment, when a lot of exciting changes and innovations are happening, it is very important to have an institution like the IABM helping our industry to better understand what the future will bring.

Sommer has been working in the video and broadcast industry for more than 17 years, all while working closely with the IABM. Prior to joining Vitec Group, he held various leadership positions in sales and marketing management in the manufacturing system engineering and automotive industries. He started with Vitec Group in 2002 as director of product management and marketing at Sachtler. During his tenure with the company, Sommer was a key part of sales and marketing, serving in roles such as brand development for the Autoscript, OConnor, Sachtler, and Vinten brands. He has been in his current role within Vitec Production Solutions for three years, directly responsible for channel development across the EMEA region and for providing consultation and oversight channel development in the Asia-Pacific region.

“I’m grateful to have a seat at the table with so many of the industry’s leaders to contribute to that effort. I’ll use my expertise to help IABM members prepare themselves for the challenges and benefits that are coming. I’ll also be a voice for the hardware manufacturers,” he added.
