Metadator 2.0

Digital Nirvana’s Metadator 2.0 is a secure, scalable software-as-a-service platform that automates the process of metadata generation for production, pre-production, and live content.

Metadator 2.0 includes an off-the-shelf integration with Avid Interplay for automated speech-to-text generation that simplifies the process of automated transcription and metadata generation with locators for Avid users. The application, integrated with video intelligence, is capable of object identification, on-screen text recognition, shot-change detection, and explicit content detection.

Metadator 2.0 automates the entire process of transcription and metadata generation for Avid-based assets. It provides an opportunity to maintain consistent metadata, thereby facilitating faster time to market by ensuring relevant assets get identified more efficiently. Metadator 2.0 automatically generates locators that help users search and identify content effortlessly within Avid.

Caption Quality Check

To resolve the inherent technical complexities involved with producing closed captions for different distribution channels, Digital Nirvana is launching Caption Quality Check, an application built with content producers in mind. Some of the product’s key features include reporting operational and technical non-conformance, automatic corrections, format conversion, and frame-rate conversion.

Caption Quality Check accepts different file formats (such as SCC, SRT, EBU-STL, WebVTT, SMPTE-TT, and JSON) as inputs via the portal, S3 bucket, and APIs. Users can choose from a combination of automatic and manual services to ensure premium-quality output and receive publish-ready captions in the formats requested for distribution via various platforms, including OTT and VOD.

The design of the Caption Quality Check service improves overall user experience. Its simplified, automated, and customized workflow allows customers to automate their requests and work-order assignments to maximize productivity.

Closed Caption Generation

Digital Nirvana offers postproduction captioning services with near-live and weekly turnaround options for a variety of video formats. The platform can take in video in a variety of formats and provide output caption files in multiple formats as specified by the customer. Secure protocol implementation, with layers of security, helps with the safe transfer of content into the cloud and back again. The speech-to-text (STT) integration helps transcript editors receive output from an automated system for further editing for higher accuracy. Adoption of STT makes the work process more efficient, thereby saving a great deal of labor and ensuring faster turnarounds while also handling increased volumes. The processed files are passed on to the caption editors, who edit the content based on the guidelines prescribed by the customer/regulation. Files are prioritized based on turnarounds and skill-set requirements. Upon request, Digital Nirvana will provide preliminary files in the form of direct output from the STT engine. Customers can opt for caption files in multiple formats for the same video asset, which in turn can be published over multiple platforms including OTT, VOD, and social media.

Digital Nirvana’s Caption Lookup service is an effective way to quickly look up for captions from broadcast content, synchronize it, and reuse for online publishing. Captions associated with any broadcast content can easily be retrieved by submitting media clips over Rest API. Digital Nirvana’s state-of-the-art Retrieval technology makes content retrieval easy by maintaining a fingerprint database for broadcast content along with associated closed captions for selected channels.

ENCO Boosts Global Captioning Game with Broader Multi-Lingual Support for enCaption

ENCO continues to make technical and operational strides forward with its market-leading enCaption4 solution for automated closed-captioning, deployable on-premises or in the cloud.

IBC2018 marks the European debut of a new speech-to-text engine for enCaption4 that takes real-time accuracy to unprecedented new levels, along with workflow efficiencies that range from NDI compatibility to captioning for live and on-demand streams.

The latest improvements in accuracy include a dictionary database that has, for the first time, been expanded to 29 languages in time for IBC, making enCaption4 a viable solution with true ROI value for broadcasters worldwide. Leveraging breakthroughs in machine-learning technology, ENCO’s patented, Artificial Intelligence-driven solution allows new languages to be added on short notice. Furthermore, integration with popular newsroom computer systems from ENPS and Octopus among others takes advantage of news scripts and rundowns to learn and validate the spelling of local names and terminology.

Interoperable Workflows with enCaption

For the first time in Europe, ENCO will demonstrate enCaption’s new NDI compatibility, which simplifies the captioning workflow by eliminating the need for specialized encoding hardware. enCaption4 can now automatically generate captions through its NDI input stream, and output an NDI signal with captions keyed directly on top of the video stream. This interoperability also offers a strong and reliable solution for accurate closed captioning within live web and social media streams, such as Facebook Live.

“While online video distribution is not subject to the same stringent closed captioning regulations as broadcast TV, the use of captions ensures a larger audience for any online video,” Frommert said. “Advocacy groups for the hard of hearing are also actively pushing for online video programs to contain captions. And many watching video on portable devices in public places prefer to keep their volume down and turn on captions instead.”

In further support of captioning needs for online video, ENCO will demonstrate its collaborative solution with StreamGuys – co-exhibiting at ENCO’s IBC stand, 8.A59 – for the automatic generation of captioning in live and on-demand streams. The workflow covers both transcriptions of new recordings, and captions for pre-recorded files that exist in the archives. Users also have the power to search the captioned content and can export the resulting captioning files (SRT or VTT), and save transcripts of any selected media content for later use.

DoCaption’s LRBox Ancillary Data Platform Brings All-in-One Yet Modular Licensing Approach to Closed Captioning Broadcast and Monitoring

DoCaption’s LRBox products now are available in a modular software solution tailor-made for the company’s portfolio of closed-captioning/subtitling encoders, decoders, and monitors.

“By bringing LRBox products into the software realm, we can offer our customers complete solutions with the benefit of modular licensing,” said Renaud Desportes, director of product management and worldwide sales at DoCaption. “LRBox users enjoy state-of-the-art closed-captioning technology and the flexibility to select and configure other critical tools in the manner that best suits their operations.”

The LRBox line includes the WST (ETSI EN300706)/OP42/OP-47/ST-2031 and CEA-608/CEA-708 closed-captioning/subtitling encoders, inserters, databridges, and monitoring devices. All products can be equipped with additional modules including de-embedded audio out, GPI I/Os, RS-232/422 serial I/Os, and more.

The LRBox platform provides as standard a program SDI I/O that is bypass-relay protected, as well as a secondary SDI-configurable input or output, a combination that supports, for example, ancillary data bridging or captioning monitoring with captions overlaid on the video. A fast Ethernet port and a USB port allow for flexible data exchange, simple configuration access, and in-the-field firmware upgrades.
