FedNet Uses TVU Grid for Exclusive Live Coverage of U.S. Presidential Impeachment Hearings to Schools and Media Outlets

Capitol-based Multimedia Provider Selected TVU Networks’ IP-based Solution for Its Scalability in First Live Streaming Initiative

FedNet is providing live broadcast coverage of the impeachment inquiry hearings and the upcoming U.S. Senate trial against U.S. President Donald Trump this month using TVU Grid from TVU Networks, a technology and market leader in IP-based live video solutions, for video distribution over IP networks. FedNet maintains a secure video network throughout the Capitol complex, broadcasting thousands of hearings, press conferences and live coverage of Senate and House Floor debates every day. FedNet’s selection of TVU Grid’s IP-based video switching, routing and distribution for the impeachment hearings marks the first live streaming initiative by FedNet.

FedNet is providing live gavel-to-gavel, multi-camera switched coverage of the hearings, plus live interviews with legislators. Multiple event broadcast feeds will be available as a service offering on TVU Grid, with FedNet looking to reach educational institutions with relevant fields of study such as political science and journalism as well as commercial media outlets.

“We needed an infinitely scalable set up,” said Keith Carney, President, FedNet. “With TVU Grid, we can scale to any number of locations to our network without increasing bandwidth requirements at each site. And we can route live video streams using TVU Grid anywhere in the world with sub-second latency. It’s an extremely fluid system, which is perfect for us. And we’re very confident in the robustness of the platform with the number of national media companies currently on TVU Grid.”

TVU Grid provides point to multipoint bidirectional live video distribution over IP. Using the TVU Grid platform, users can view public video sources that are available around the world, and request to take the stream and make it available for their own viewing audience. TVU Command Center, the centralized management platform for all TVU solutions, is also the source of control for TVU Grid. Through TVU Command Center, you can see the status of all transmissions and TVU Servers.

“The hearings this month are a large national and international news event,” said TVU Networks’ CEO Paul Shen. “We’re honored and thrilled FedNet selected TVU Grid for its scalability and centralized control for their first live streaming endeavor. We look forward to what they’ll be able to accomplish with future events such as the State of the Union, political conventions and the 2020 U.S. Presidential elections.”

FedNet is now live streaming the hearings on TVU Grid. Current FedNet and TVU Grid users can access the stream through TVU Gridlink on TVU Grid. Others can preview the live stream by signing up for TVU Gridlink at gridlink.tvunetworks.com.

TVU Networks to Intro Multi-Cam Production Solution Enabling Audience Participation with Video

At the upcoming IBC (International Broadcasting Convention) in September, TVU Networks, the global leader in live IP solutions, will introduce the completely cloud-based TVU Talkshow – the first all-in-one solution for multi-camera production that enables audience participation with video. TVU Networks will introduce the TVU Talkshow solution and its full line of products and services for live video content workflow at the RAI Conference Center in Hall 2, Stand B28 during IBC.

Real-time Audience Engagement with Video

TVU Talkshow supports bi-directional audience participation, enabling fans to engage with an event or hosted show in real-time. An unlimited number of participants can video call in using the TVU Talkshow app on their mobile phone. TVU Talkshow’s integrated caller management system enables producers to pre-screen all callers. TVU Talkshow also supports IFB management to ensure effective and seamless communication whether it’s hosts interacting with callers or the producers, production crew and camera operators coordinating with each other.

Simultaneous Multi-Platform Delivery and Professional Graphics Support

As the solution is based entirely in the cloud, there is no wiring required and operation is simplified with one, centralized GUI that can be operated from a web browser. TVU Talkshow can simultaneously deliver live content to multiple destinations , such as social media platform like Facebook Live or YouTube Live, the CDN or web page of your choice, and over 3000 major TV stations globally on TVU Grid, as well as traditional SDI output through a TVU receiver.

Furthermore, TVU Talkshow is an open platform which enables third party providing their services by integrating them through TVU Open API. The integration with cloud-based Singular.live IP graphics platform, provides advanced real-time graphics overlay capabilities to Producer’s live production environment from any location.

“There’s nothing like TVU Talkshow on the market right now,” said David Jorba, Executive Vice President, Managing Director Europe, TVU Networks. “It’s the first cloud-based multi-camera production solution to support and manage unlimited live audience participation with video.”

“TVU Talkshow was designed to be a highly flexible all-in-one solution, with modular video production components. Combining a number of patented technologies, such as frame accurate synchronization technology, TVU Talkshow enables producers to do a broadcast quality live production accessing TVU’s cloud-based platform from anywhere, with maximum scalability and an efficient pay-for-what-you-use business model.”

Embedded with H.265 encoding and patented IS+ transmission algorithm, fans can send live Full HD video from anywhere using their smartphone – be it a crowded stadium, mountain range overseas or even a fast-moving vehicle – to the studio and contribute to the conversation live.

“By incorporating lower cost and proven remote and studio applications, we’re enabling broadcasters to extend their reach to niche markets by producing live shows and events with the frequency and resolution previously reserved for much larger productions,” added Jorba.

Proven for Live Programming

Examples of recent TVU Talkshow use already include Fox Noire in the US and Sky Sports’ the Football Social in Europe. The Sky Sports’ live talk show, Football Social, streamed on youtube and Facebook reached more than 17 million online views for the 2018/2019 Premier League season using the bi-directional remote audience participation feature from TVU Talkshow. Fox Noire, a new streaming channel focused on the African American experience in Los Angeles, is also an early user.

The cloud-based TVU Producer allows producers to make quick cuts, insert graphic overlays, switch between multiple sources, manage audio, compile highlights and instant replays, capture slow-motion clips, and push finalized content to TV and the Internet. Visual radio producers have discovered the benefits of the easy-to-use TVU Producer for the creation of cost-efficient live production that can be immediately streamed to online platforms. The non-profit group, the AIMS Foundation, has used TVU Producer to live stream two classical music concerts on Facebook and Youtube to increase awareness of the foundation.

TVU Remote Production System (RPS) enables synchronized multi-camera remote production using a broadcaster’s existing studio control room and a public Internet connection from the field. Up to six camera feeds are automatically synchronized and  transmitted from a remote location back to the studio over IP, reducing the need for on-site production trucks or large crews. Al Kamel Systems, a leading motor sports live stats broadcast production specialist, uses TVU RPS to add racing graphics from remote sites. The 2019 World Roller Games held in Barcelona, Spain, used TVU RPS to broadcast from various remote locations in five cities. Six synchronized signals were sent to La Xarxa for distribution.

TVU Networks Partners with Stringr

TVU Networks announced its partnership with Stringr, the premium video marketplace for custom, high-quality, video content. Stringr’s network of professional and amateur videographers is now available through the TVU Global Grid, the Cloud platform for content owners to contribute and pull video, enabling assets to be shared and sold on a global scale. The relationship leverages Stringr’s robust network of videographers and the established global presence of the TVU Grid distribution platform.

TVU Grid is an IP-based switching, routing and distribution system. With TVU Grid, stations can route live video streams over IP networks to one or more Grid-enabled news stations anywhere in the world with sub-second latency. Using its TVU Global Grid platform, users can exchange, share, and sell video content. Users can view public video sources that are available around the world, and request to take the stream and make it available for their own viewing audience.

Stringr allows users to access its content library and request custom footage from over 90,000 videographers around the world. In addition, broadcasters, publishers and brands in the U.S. and U.K. can access Stringr’s livestreaming function, which launched earlier this year. Users will now be able to put out requests through TVU Grid, and as a videographer in Stringr’s network begins sharing live footage, it will be transmitted directly to TVU Grid.

“The TVU Grid is used by thousands of newsrooms around the world,” said Brian McNeill, COO and Co-Founder of Stringr. “Integrating Stringr will give TVU users all the benefits of our platform, without having to flip between the two, therefore saving time, cutting unnecessary costs and maintaining content quality.”

The Stringr/TVU Grid workflow is seamless. A joint customer requests video from Stringr. When one of Stringr’s 90,000+ videographers goes live with video matching the request, the feed is sent through Stringr, straight into TVU Grid. From there, the joint customer can take the feed just as they would for any other TVU content.

“By incorporating Stringr’s network through TVU Grid, our customers have the best of both worlds – high-quality, low latency live video distributed through TVU Grid with the extensive Stringr videographer marketplace,” said TVU Networks’ CEO Paul Shen. “The combination enables our customers to deliver breaking news faster than ever before and opens up monetization opportunities for their own content. It makes the live production process much simpler with a streamlined workflow while providing greater flexibility and more options for dynamic content.”

A mutual customer brought the two companies in touch with one another, and the opportunity to partner grew from that initial connection. Both TVU Networks and Stringr executives saw the value in a solution combining TVU Grid’s access to global live coverage with Stringr’s ability to source live footage. “The combination of these two products allows our partners to get more live coverage, quickly, cost effectively, and within the same workflow they’ve always used,” added McNeill.

TVU Networks and Stringr are currently working with a major cable network and plan to expand to other partners shortly.

TVU Networks Supports Innovative Remote Production by Moscow’s Transport Department

TVU Networks, the global technology and innovation leader in live IP video solutions, was chosen by Moscow’s Transport Department to deliver an innovative broadcast to mark the eighth Moscow Urban Forum 2018, held in July this year. TVU Networks solutions were used to facilitate live interviews with public officials from two locations, from a studio located in the Forum venue at the Park Zaryadye cultural center near the iconic Kremlin and Red Square, and from a moving carriage on the Moscow Metro’s Circle Line, 84m below ground.

In total, eight hours of content was live streamed to a dedicated YouTube channel accessed by a global audience. The production team needed to undertake a seamless, multi-camera broadcast between the two locations, with trouble-free switching between cameras to maintaining high quality images and sound from start to finish.

Transport Department chose TVU Networks’ proven TVU Router, which was connected to Moscow Metro’s WiFi network. To ensure even higher reliability, the TVU Router was coupled with SIM cards to deliver unbroken connectivity for the broadcasts. TVU Transceivers were deployed to handle both incoming and outgoing signals, with the powerful TVU Grid IP-based content exchange solution ensuring seamless switching between live feeds.

“We wanted to do something ambitious to mark eight years of the Moscow Urban Forum and so planned this exciting live broadcast . The biggest challenge was ensuring that connectivity and reliable bandwidth were maintained across the remote locations – including the moving carriage on the Circle Line – to deliver a flawless stream to viewers,” said Ekaterina Fadeeva, Managing director of the Moscow Metro Media Center. “We needed a solution that had the flexibility and reliability to turn our vision into reality. With its combination of solutions, TVU Networks met all our requirements, with no compromise on the quality of the final images and zero delays.”

TVU Router provided the Transport Department team with a portable broadband internet access point delivering up to 200Mbps of secure, reliable, high-speed and untethered Internet connectivity wirelessly. TVU Networks’ proprietary Inverse StatMux Plus technology ensured the added stability and reliability needed for this innovative project.
